Euro changeover completed 'within eight days'

The changeover to the euro in Ireland was virtually complete within eight days of the New Year, according to the Euro Changeover Board’s annual report.

The board described the overall exercise as smooth and rapid and said it caused minimum disruption.

Details published this morning show that the switch from pounds to euro was almost complete by January 8.

They also show that the information campaign launched in the months prior to the changeover cost €16m.

The Euro Changeover Board has now been dissolved.
