'Honest' Enron boss almost bankrupt says wife
The wife of former Enron boss Kenneth Lay says he's struggling to avoid personal bankruptcy.
His wife Linda says he's an honest man who has done no wrong.
Mrs Lay told US TV that the full truth hasn't come out about Enron.
She says: "Everything we had mostly was in Enron stock. We've had long-term investments and those long-term investments have cash calls. Virtually - other than the home we live in - everything we own is for sale."
Kenneth Lay resigned earlier this month from the Texas based company. He said the lawsuits and investigations into Enron's collapse were preventing him from properly running the company.
Mrs Lay says her husband is an "honest, decent, moral human being who would do absolutely nothing wrong".
She adds: "There's some things Kenneth wasn't told. That will all come out in the investigation."
His wife says Mr Lay had no idea former Enron executive Clifford Baxter - who committed suicide - was in any kind of pain.
Mr Baxter shot himself in his car a few miles from his home in suburban Houston on Friday.
She says: "It makes my heart ache, it makes Ken's heart ache. Had we known, we would have picked up phones and called - we would have gone and been with him."
