EDS selects SmartForce for US Navy project
EDS [NYSE:EDS]] has chosen SmartForce [Nasdaq:SMTF] to provide e-learning for the Navy Marine Corps Intranet project.
EDS, in partnership with Worldcom, Raytheon, Dell and others, is working on this initiative to make network-based information services available to 360,000+sailors and marines at more than US 300 bases worldwide.
SmartForce will be the exclusive e-learning provider for the project, which in total is valued at nearly $7bn.
Irish company SmartForce says that it is now the world's largest e-learning company, with 2,500 major corporate customers.
Computer services provider Electronic Data Systems is a company which has been extremely successful recently.
In Q3 its earnings rose by 20% with the outlook good for Q4. The company has said that the 11th September has created a long-term opportunity by fuelling demand for new security-related services.
In Ireland, the company employs around 400 people at its Dublin facility. The Irish operation has recently completed year one of a major outsourcing contract with FLS Aerospace, valued at $3m per year.
