Tyre company settles state cases

Bridgestone/Firestone is to pay $ 41.5m in a settlement to head off lawsuits by American states over defective tyres recalled by the company more than a year ago.

Each of the 50 US states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands will get $500,000, according to a copy of the settlement.
