Fujitsu announces half-year losses

Fujitsu has announced large half-year losses due, it said, to cuts in corporate IT spending and lower demand for mobile phones and computers.

Fujitsu said that it no longer expected to make an operating profit this fiscal year.

The company has been restructuring and since August has announced 21,000 job losses.

In Ireland, the company employs over 1,000 people in its telecoms and IT division and those employed in its other operations here, including ICL Ireland, and its joint venture Fujitsu-Siemens.

In the summer 340 jobs were lost at its joint venture Shinko Microelectronics but other than that it is not known how Fujitsu's global job cuts will effect jobs here.
