Airline bmi British Midland today described reports that 650 jobs were to be cut in the aftermath of the US terrorist attacks as ‘‘speculation’’.

The airline was already reviewing business before the September 11 atrocity and planned to make an announcement before its winter timetable was introduced at the end of the month.
