Coca-Cola denies any link with bogus internet adverts
Coca-Cola says it has nothing to do with bogus internet adverts which feature its logo plastered across Muslim holy sites.
The spoof adverts were brought to Coke's attention before the US terror attacks.
Coca-Cola has decided to take the unprecedented step of issuing a statement to distance itself from the spoof ads.
It states: "We are aware of false advertisements featuring holy sites in the Middle East that have been circulating on the internet.
"The advertisements are fabricated and have not been produced by the Coca-Cola Company."
The statement adds: "The Coca-Cola Company has full respect for the cultures and religions in all of the nearly 200 countries in which we operate."
Coca-Cola is not the only company to have suffered at the hands of hoaxers.
CNN has been wrongly accused of using 10-year-old footage of Palestinians celebrating on the day of the New York attack.
