US carrier Northwest Airlines is to cut 10,000 jobs and reduce services by 20% to counter a business slow down in the wake of terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

‘‘The events of last week will have a lasting impact on all of us,’’ said the airline’s chief executive Richard Anderson.
