Internet giant AOL eliminates 1200 jobs
America Online is eliminating another 1,200 jobs - 8% of its workforce - as the unit reorganises itself, copes with an advertising downturn and integrates with the rest of the AOL Time Warner media conglomerate.
An additional 500 jobs are being cut at iPlanet, a software maker that AOL co-owns with Sun Microsystems. iPlanet employs 3,000 people, making the cuts there equivalent to 17% of that company’s work force.
