Lastminute.com taps into adult goods market
Lastminute.com has added edible underwear and blow-up dolls to its range of products.
The online retailer, better known for its discount travel deals, is poised to tap into the lucrative adult content market.
Lastminute.com has unveiled a revamp of its site which introduces the new adult section as part of its drive to prove that it isn't just a travel company.
Martha Lane Fox, who co-founded the company with Brent Hoberman, said: "We have remarkable success in pushing unusual products. I think sending someone a pair of furry handcuffs would raise a smile."
The group has seen a steep decline from its initial £600 million stock market valuation, with shares losing 90% of their peak value.
But lastminute.com's bosses say they're confident the lossmaking company is finally ready to turn a profit.
The group's interim results revealed an increase in customer numbers to 3.1 million, from 1.3 million, for the second quarter ended March 31.
The company recently signed a deal giving it access to millions of Yahoo! customers.
