US dotcom job losses slowed in May

A new survey says the US dotcom carnage is starting to slow.

Figures released by recruitment firm Challenger Gray & Christmas reveal job cuts in the dotcom sector slowed in May, following an all-time high in April.

May job losses were down 24% to 13,419 from April's record high of 17,554.

However, the total 64,983 cuts made so far this year, is already 60% higher than the layoffs counted during all of 2000.

Most of the dotcom job cuts came from internet technology, or infrastructure companies.

Companies offering a consumer service contributed the second largest portion of job cuts.

Challenger Gray & Christmas say the rise in dotcom redundancies started last May, when thousands of jobs started to go.
