MSN unveils online 'radio'

MSN has unveiled a trial version of a new internet music service to let fans look for and listen to recordings online.

Microsoft's web portal - which claims to have 230 million users - says MSN Music will come in a web radio format, using advanced search technology to allow users to seek out artists, songs or albums by genre.

It adds that there will be input from music experts, dubbed 'groovers', to ensure that all tastes are catered for.

MSN's move comes in the same week that big name music labels EMI Recorded Music, BMG Entertainment and Warner Music Group announced their plans for a comprehensive online music offering.

That service, which will be subscription-based, will be developed in partnership with Microsoft's online media rivals RealNetworks.
