Entertainment Rights secures Barbie deal

Entertainment Rights has secured the international television and video distribution rights for the first-ever feature length Barbie film.

Barbie in the Nutcracker will be released on video worldwide and on selected TV network later this year.

Mike Heap, chief executive of London-based Enertainment Rights, hopes the £2.3m distribution deal will make it the most successful family film ever.

The 75-minute film, produced by Mainframe Entertainment Inc, will be screened for the first time in the autumn.

Mr Heap says: "When Entertainment Rights was created, we set out a clear strategic vision to become a leading global intellectual property rights group.

"This partnership is testament to our ability to achieve that vision. We look forward to working with Mattel."

Adrienne Fontanella, president of Mattel's girls' division, adds: "This film is a first for the Barbie brand and one of the most important milestones in our history.

"We believe that the timing is perfect as the Barbie brand's popularity continues to grow worldwide.

"Barbie has huge appeal with girls, sparking their imaginations and dreams. We want girls coming away from the video with richer imaginations and the understanding that anything is possible."

Ms Fontanella says Mattel is delighted to be working with the team at Entertainment Rights, and adds that the UK firm has a proven track record in the international distribution arena.
