Polaroid to cut 230 jobs
More than 230 workers are to lose their jobs following cutbacks by a big American camera and film manufacturer, it was announced today.
The Polaroid corporation said it was declaring a total of 235 redundancies at its Vale of Leven plant near Dumbarton, which employs a total of 850 people.
Polaroid said the job losses, which would be among manufacturing and administration staff, were part of a nearly 1,000 job cuts worldwide which would take effect over the next three months.
The firm, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, said the worldwide restructuring was aimed at cutting overheads, ‘‘realigning’’ the company’s resources, and speeding implementation of its digital strategy.
It said of the Vale of Leven operation: ‘‘The site will become more focused on new product delivery, capitalising on the unique position of having design, development and manufacturing co-located as part of an integrated operation.’’
