IN a small room at the back of the new wing of Leinster House, Eamon Ryan sits at his desk, a water feature flowing outside his window amid plants in the courtyard.

Hanging over his computer are notes, memos, party plans and also a bike safety flag, his shrine to cycling, he says. The Green Party leader is an idealist, a pragmatist but ambitious and tuned-in to a changing society.
