ESB H1 operating profit falls €50m

The depreciation of sterling in the aftermath of the UK’s Brexit vote coupled with intense competition in the Irish market saw ESB record its weakest half-yearly operating profit in years.

The company yesterday released its interim results covering the period to the end of June which showed operating profit fell by €50m to €287m.

This represented the electricity provider’s worst performance in five years.
