Vodafone Ireland Q1 revenue hits €242m
The mobile operator’s Irish arm was boosted by strong year-on-year growth of 10.7% in its broadband customer base along with an increase in the number of mobile customers opting for contract over prepay plans.
Vodafone Ireland chief executive Anne O’Leary said changes to its product offering has given customers more choice which in turn has driven growth.
“We continue to see significant interest in customers choosing Vodafone to meet their total communications needs across both consumer and business,” Ms O’Leary said.
Mobile customers during the first quarter of the firm’s financial year grew by 11,000 and 35,000 on an annual basis. The number of prepay mobile customers dropped by 30,000 in Q1, however.
Vodafone added 8,000 fixed broadband customers in the same period — a 10.7% increase. The company’s Q1 update also illustrated the huge spike data operators are experiencing with data usage among its customers up 46% year-on-year.
During the quarter, international benchmarking company P3 named Vodafone as the country’s best network.
At group level, Vodafone reported better than expected 2.2% growth in the quarter. Strong growth in Spain and Germany contributed to the company’s performance which represented the eighth consecutive quarterly of growth.
Overall, European markets recorded growth of 0.3% despite the impact of cuts to roaming charges.
