Annual profits at  Johnnie Fox’s pub climb by €230,000

Profits at one of the best known pubs in the country, Johnnie Fox’s in the Dublin mountains, reached new heights last year when they increased by €231,507.

This followed Fox’s Pub Ltd, which operates the self-styled highest pub in Dublin, recording pre-tax profits of €226,801 in 2014.

The firm’s accumulated profits for the 12 months to the end of last March totalled €328,393 - compared to €96,886 for the previous year.

Numbers employed by the business last year reduced from 55 to 48.

Only 420 people live within a two and a half mile radius of the pub that is situated 12 miles from Dublin.

However, it still manages to attract large crowds all year round.

The business is owned by Limerick man, Tony McMahon who has owned the business for around 30 years.

Over the years, the venue has provided hospitality to seven heads of state, six prime ministers and numerous celebrities.

Mr McMahon was not available for comment yesterday but in a previous interview, he said that coming to Johnnie Fox’s is an adventure for people and that the key to the success of the pub is great music and great food along with a very friendly staff.

Fox’s Pub Ltd’s cash pile last year declined marginally from €182,820 to €180,912.

The firm’s staff costs last year increased from €1.656m to €1.747m - a breakdown of the staff showing 19 work in the bar; 13 in the restaurant; eight in administration; six in management and two in the stock room.

Directors remuneration last year remained static at €111,000.
