Ireland could be in line for a significant jobs boost after the world’s largest online retailer announced plans to create several thousand jobs across Europe this year.

Amazon, which employs 40,000 people across its European operation, said it is looking to follow up on its 2015 recruitment drive by adding thousands of extra roles again this year.

The retail giant was unable to outline how many additional staff its Irish business would be taking on but a spokesperson confirmed to the Irish Examiner that Ireland is part of its expansion plans as outlined by the company’s EU retail vice president.
