Housebuilding group Abbey buoyant with strong housing development activity in pipeline

Housebuilding group, Abbey has said it has a number of new development sites on its radar as it looks to continue growing in Ireland.

Speaking yesterday, on the back of a strong set of first-half financial results, the Co Meath-based company’s executive chairman, Charles Gallagher, expressed confidence in the gradual improvement in the Irish market.

While he said prices still need to rise enough to trigger widespread building, Mr Gallagher said things are slowly recovering, although the low level of bank lending to buyers is still proving to be a major headwind to progress.
