Ireland has slipped four places in a global ranking of countries’ public wifi services having failed to improve the quality of available offerings over the past 12 months.

Research based on user experiences of the speed and quality of wifi provision at public hotspots across 184 countries shows Ireland has dropped from fourth in last year’s survey to eighth.

The average download speed of 11.5 Mbps recorded at Irish hotspots puts it slightly ahead of Belgium (11.2 Mbps) and on a par with Denmark.
