Tote Ireland is aiming for a greater slice of the Irish betting market by expanding its scope into football and greyhound racing.

This is the first time the 85- year-old betting services provider has expanded its product portfolio outside of horseracing and is introducing its new offerings via partnerships with the Irish Greyhound Board and UK-based betting pool operator, Colossus Bets.

A further expansion of the Tote’s sports betting portfolio is also anticipated.

According to Tote Ireland chief executive, Tim Higgins the expansion was directly prompted by customer feedback.

“Our customers have told us that they want the opportunity to bet with us on more sports and we’re very happy to now offer these great new products to Tote customers,” said Mr Higgins.

“We know our customers like to win big and we’ve added further opportunities for them to win life-changing amounts of money.”

As part of the expansion, Tote Ireland, which operates pool betting at every Irish racecourse and is wholly-owned by Horse Racing Ireland, will also launch Colossus Bets’ sporting jackpot pools across its online and mobile platforms and is considering a launch of the UK firm’s partial cash-out technology across the Tote Ireland platform.

“This would make our horseracing pools even more engaging and would make us the world’s first Tote to go live with that technology,” said Mr Higgins.

Irish Greyhound Board chief executive Geraldine Larkin said: “This joint agreement is a fantastic boost to our greyhound racing brand and will, in turn, boost both organisations’ earnings and Tote pools.”
