34% rise in UK profits at Smyths

Sales of Power Rangers and Frozen dolls last year helped family-owned Irish toy-seller Smyths enjoy a 34% increase in pre-tax profits in its British and Northern Irish operations to £4.3m (€5.86m).

New figures show that the Galway-headquartered firm enjoyed massive growth in 2014 in Britain and the North, with sales climbing by 34% to £288m (€391m) on the back of new store openings. Smyths only entered the UK market in 2007 and its business has grown exponentially there ever since.

The firm is Ireland’s largest toy retailer and the extent of its profits and revenues here are not available as the business has unlimited status in Ireland.
