Ireland moved up one notch to 24th place in the World Economic Forum competitiveness rankings, but the country’s overall debt and the ease of business to access capital is holding it back from performing even better.

A high ranking can help countries attract more investment because foreign companies have in the past cited such league tables for deciding on where to locate large investment projects.

Ireland scores well in the rankings for political and legal institutions and performs relatively well for its provision of health and primary education and higher education and training.
