New body to boost Ireland’s reputation as area sales hub

A new professional body has been established in a bid to cement Ireland as a premier location of choice for multinational companies establishing a regional sales hub for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

New body to boost Ireland’s reputation as area sales hub

The Inside Sales Directors Network is a joint initiative between the Sales Institute of Ireland and the American Association of Inside Sales Professionals, aimed at boosting the ‘inside sales’, or remote selling profession, here.

“It’s a very big international business success story for Ireland, in particular Cork and Dublin, representing millions of euro in new income for the economy and thousands of jobs, yet it remains one of the most unheard of aspects in this country’s recovering economy,” according to the Sales Institute’s chairman, Conor Morris.

“Strategically, we see Inside Sales becoming an even bigger and more important aspect of commercial practice, internationally,” said Network co-president David Malone .

“Ireland is seen as a global leader and is viewed as a hub for the EMEA region.

“The launch of the Inside Sales Directors Network is another incentivising reason for FDI [foreign direct investment] business to locate here, in addition to our skills availability, access to key international markets and our acknowledged track record of success in providing an environment for business to thrive.”

A US phenomenon, ‘inside sales’ revolves around selling remotely, via telephone, email, social media and web conferencing.

It’s a business-to-business activity where organisations sell to each other, usually for high-cost items, where there exists a need for in-depth product knowledge and ongoing dialogue with clients.

Currently, 17 of the top 20 ICT inside sales organisations in the world have a presence in Ireland, with Cork and Dublin being key locations for them.

There are currently up to 10,000 people employed in the area here, with Ireland ranked alongside Spain and Israel as recognised leading international hubs.

“There’s a definite need for a specialised network forum for inside sales directors,” said Mr Malone. “In part, we will provide that through a planned series of programmed events.”
