The perilous state of the Greek economy is underlined by the fact that there is only about €900m available for their banks to distribute through their ATMs, according to sources.

In a country of 12m people, with no credit available but with people able to take €60 a day from their account, banks could be empty by the end of this week.

If the ECB does not step in before then, or if the Greek government does not reach some accommodation with its creditors and receive at least a promise of money, banks could be shut indefinitely.
