Cork airport named as one of Europe’s best airports

Cork Airport was placed in the top three in Europe for customer service, facilities, retail, security, community relations and environmental awareness and operations.

Speaking after the gala dinner of the 25th ACI Europe General Assembly, Congress & Exhibition, Cork Airport Managing Director, Niall MacCarthy said staff were "absolutely delighted that Cork Airport has been commended in the top three airports in Europe.

"To be recognised by our peers in the aviation sector across the continent is an amazing achievement and credit is due to the entire Cork Airport team who consistently deliver outstanding service, every day of the year.

“As part of Cork Airport’s ongoing commitment to providing world class customer service, we are continually looking to innovate and improve our facilities. We continue to develop our app which has a unique flight tracker and customer feedback terminals have also been installed at various locations in Cork Airport and these provide valuable information on the customer experience, from departure to the bathroom facilities.

Mr. MacCarthy continued: “In relation to environmental awareness we have always been committed to reducing our carbon footprint and working to ensure the airport is as environmentally-friendly as possible.

"We have continuously achieved savings of over 35 per cent in energy consumption as well as a reduction of over 30 per cent in C02 emissions over the past five years. Last year our efforts were again acknowledged when we were awarded first place in the Public Sector category at the Sustainable Energy Awards 2014.”

The membership of the ACI covers 450 airports in 45 countries across Europe.

The ACI Europe Best Awards covers four categories of airport and acknowledge achievement in core activities such as customer service, facilities, retail, security, community relations and environmental awareness and operations.

More than 2 million passengers travel through the airport each year flying to destinations across the UK and throughout continental Europe.
