George Osborne to sell £1.5bn stake in Royal Mail

British chancellor George Osborne yesterday said his government will sell its remaining shares in Royal Mail to help reduce the country’s national debt.

The 30% stake — currently valued at about £1.5bn (€2.05bn) — will be sold later this year, the treasury said. The UK government appointed Rothschild to advise on the sale.

“That business is thriving now we’ve given it access to private-sector funding,” Mr Osborne said.
