Budding entrepreneurs to gather for UCC event

Young entrepreneurs from Ireland and farther afield will gather for three days of start-up workshops at UCC this weekend.

Budding entrepreneurs to gather for UCC event

Following on from the successful inaugural Student Startup Weekend last year, this year’s iteration of the innovative student event takes place from Friday to Sunday.

“UCC and Cork as a whole is fast becoming a hub for young entrepreneurs and our event is targeting students from all over Ireland and abroad, with our organisational team made up of representatives from five of the top Irish universities, which include UCC, UCD, DCU, Trinity College Dublin and NUIG,” organiser David Harwicke said.

Fraser Heaslip, director of Touchdown Partners, a business aimed at helping scale EMEA consumer electronic brands, will share his experiences from Touchdown as well as his involvement in mobile networking event ‘Mobile Monday’.

A team of coaches, including UCC graduates and founders of sports writing website Pundit Arena, Richard Barrett and Ross O’Dwyer, will be in attendance to offer further guidance and details of their own entrepreneurial journeys.

The weekend will culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders and influencers. A winner will be selected by a panel of judges including Eamon Curtin, director of the Ignite Graduate Business Innovation Programme at UCC; Christine O’Keefe of EMC; and DC Cahalane of Teamwork.com.
