Irish companies will benefit from Britain’s continued membership of the EU but it is too early to quantify the scale of the potential losses should it leave, according to the country’s export chief.

Enterprise Ireland chief executive Julie Sinnamon yesterday strongly urged this country’s largest trading partner to retain the status quo and resist calls from some political quarters for it to leave the EU.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner at a Sales Institute breakfast in the Clarion Hotel in Cork, Ms Sinnamon flagged Britain’s importance to the Irish economy but added that Ireland was also a key market for British exporters.
