Marginal drop in profits at Robbie Keane company

According to accounts recently filed with the Companies House in the UK, accumulated profits at Robbie Keane Promotions Ltd fell from £503,326 to £493,142 (€664,992).

The firm’s cash pile plummeted last year from £163,387 to £7,101 in the 12 months to the end of March 31.

Its debtors during the period rose from £402,085 to £516,713. At the end of March, the firm’s abridged accounts showed it had shareholder funds totalling €493,144. The 34-year-old Tallaght man set up the firm in 1999 near the start of his professional football career in England, when he was playing with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Keane transferred from Wolves to Coventry for €6m, a record for a teenager at the time and, over his career, his cumulative transfer deals total over £70m.

Keane — now living in Los Angeles with his wife and five-year-old son — would have benefited from handsome signing-on fees at the clubs that include Inter Milan, Leeds Utd, Tottenham, Liverpool, and, most recently, LA Galaxy, where he grabbed the league’s Most Valuable Player award.

Last season, it was reported that Keane’s contract with LA Galaxy is worth €3.3m per annum.

He is Ireland’s record goalscorer with 65 goals from 138 appearances, and has recorded the rare feat of scoring for 10 different clubs.
