Case study: Griffith College has big plans for 2015

2015 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Griffith College as they move to their magnificent new campus building on Wellington Road, which formally accommodated Marymount Hospice prior to their move to Curraheen.

In a market where upskilling is expected in order to stay competitive and knowledge is power, Griffith College Cork offers a superb selection of QQI and ICM accredited courses that directly address the immediate needs of the Irish and international marketplace in the areas of Business, Law, Journalism, Computing Science and Professional Accounting.

The Business faculty equips students with key management skills, additional knowledge to upgrade their current skillset and makes them more competitive in the demanding current marketplace.

Courses offer an interesting choice of specialist areas and they also present the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills as well as providing excellent opportunities for progression on to further studies including masters and ACCA programmes.

The Griffith College Law faculty enjoys a strong reputation in a competitive industry. Graduates of Griffith Law programmes graduate as Legal Executives or go on to confidently sit the professional examinations in order to qualify as solicitors or barristers. A new Special Purpose Certificate Award in Mediation programme is being launched this year which will appeal not only to those in law and dispute resolution but can transfer into business, social studies, community affairs, human resources, management and across any area of life where conflict may arise.

The ACCA continues to grant their Platinum Status, given to only a select few colleges in the world, to the School of Professional Accountancy at Griffith College. The huge success of the courses has resulted in pass rates consistently exceeding global averages.

Over 50% of Irish ACCA prizes have been won by Griffith College students in Ireland with several ‘First in Ireland’ and ‘First in the World’ winners. The Professional Accountancy exams available include ACCA, CPA and CIMA.

Griffith College alumni work in many areas of Irish media. The comprehensive undergraduate, postgraduate and Masters’ courses provide a superb grounding in all aspects of modern journalism from Media Law to Investigative Reporting. The face of Irish media has altered substantially and graduates will have an excellent grasp of how to write for every audience; how to bring writing skills to all job descriptions.

In a world where business is increasingly carried out online, graduates from the Computing Science faculty at Griffith College will be highly desirable job candidates in an area that, despite the recession, continues to enjoy very high levels of employment across a wide range of industries.
