Aldi’s new flagship store in the landmark Elysian Tower in Cork City may well be the jewel in the discount retailer’s ever-expanding crown but a 40-minute drive away lays the real epicentre of the company’s Irish success.

Aldi’s Mitchelstown regional distribution centre, situated on the Limerick Road in the heart of the Golden Vale, is one of two command centres befitting a 113-strong store network.

Like its sister site in Naas, Co Kildare, it acts as a command post for approximately half the country, with the Cork base overseeing operations below an illusory line running broadly from Mayo to Wexford. Built on a 13-hectare site and approaching 60,000 sq m its footprint is colossal.
