Aldi reports 36% increase in sales in UK and Ireland

German discount supermarket Aldi has reported a 36% increase in sales at its UK and Ireland operations for 2013, to £5.3bn (€6.8bn).

The company also said that its combined British and Irish pre-tax profits grew by 65% last year to a record level of £260.9m.

Aldi operates 111 stores in Ireland, and has a presence in every county in the Republic.
