DHL delivers a pre-tax profit of €1.59m

That is according to comments by directors of DHL Express (Ireland) Ltd, in the firm’s latest set of annual accounts, which show a 1.3% increase in revenues to €76.5m in the 12 months to the end of last December.

Last year’s profits, however, represent a 10% drop on the previous year’s surplus of €1.77m.

In the latest accounts, the directors state that the firm continues on its successful path, with its strategy to scale-back domestic delivery services and re-focus on its core international and air and road express business.

Numbers employed by the firm last year remained static at 324.

The directors state that the increase in revenues “is mainly driven by the ongoing improvement in core international revenues and a customer-centric focus, which has fostered further customer acquisitions in 2013”.

According to the directors, operating profit from continuing business confirms DHL Ireland’s financial good health. The operating profit of €1.87m benefited from the revenue growth but also from an ongoing focus on cost management and operational productivity.

Regarding the firm’s future developments, the report states that the company will continue to focus on its core air and road express business targeting an increased revenue share by providing a market-leading service at the lowest operating cost.

A breakdown of the staff number shows that there were 174 in management and administration and 150 in operational staff, with staff costs last year increasing from €17m to €17.82m.

Established more than 40 years ago in the US, and owned by Deutsche Post, DHL has links in more than 220 countries, and employs 300,000.
