Filling up on jobs at forecourt

Forecourt retailer Applegreen will today announce the creation of 360 jobs.

It follows more good news on the jobs front yesterday, with ticket-exchange website announcing that it is to establish an international operations centre in Limerick with the creation of “hundreds of jobs”.

Credit management firm Arvato also announced the creation of 50 jobs at its Blanchardstown base in Dublin.

Applegreen chief operations officer Joe Barrett said: “I am delighted to announce that Applegreen has created 60 new jobs in Wicklow at our new motorway service station on the M11 at Coyne’s Cross. This is a key part of our expansion plans in Ireland and it will be followed by additional openings at Birdhill, Swords, and Lemybrien later in the year, creating a total number of 360 new jobs in Ireland across 2014 and 2015.”

In addition to the 360 full-time positions, the privately funded building projects will also provide contract work for 250 construction workers.

The decision by Viagogo — which helps people buy and sell tickets to live sports, entertainment, and theatre events — to base its operations centre in Limerick will see a major expansion in the company’s workforce.

Viagogo currently employs about 50 people at a temporary facility in Limerick city centre but this number is set to reach the hundreds, according to group operations manager Edward Parkinson.

“We reviewed many locations for our latest operations centre but we chose Limerick for its reputation as a place of excellence and local talent,” he said.

Arvato, meanwhile, said it had secured a deal with Eircom to provide support and consumer collections services to the telecoms firm.

Paul Doyle of Eircom said the contract “represents great value for Eircom” and would help achieve significant efficiencies.

Finally, one of the leading players in the aircraft parts industry, US company Aero-zone, confirmed that it is to base its European headquarters in the Shannon Free Zone in Clare.
