Pretax losses at the four-star hotel resort that hosted last year’s Irish Open narrowed by 11% to €1.83m in 2012.

New figures just filed with the Companies Office for 2012 and 2011 for Chockablock Ltd, which operates Carton House in Kildare show the business recorded combined losses of €3.89m in the two years. However, losses reduced by 11% in the 12 months to the end of Dec 2012, from €2m to €1.83m as revenues rose from €15.89m to €16.3m.

According to the directors’ report: “The results for the year demonstrate the growing strength of Carton House. The profit generated, before interest and rents, amounted to €1.35m — €1.12m in 2011. Growth of 3% in revenues and a 21% improvement in profitability are very significant achievements in the current challenging economic environment.”
