Orthopaedic firm to create 38 R&D jobs

An orthopaedic company based in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork, is to create 38 positions in research and development.

The five year project at DePuy Synthes Ireland, is supported by IDA Ireland.

DePuy (Ireland) established a manufacturing facility in Ringaskiddy in 1997 and manufactures orthopaedic products for global markets.

The new multi-million euro R&D programme is designed to build core competencies in the areas of advanced processing technology, new materials development and advanced process implementation for the DePuy Synthes Companies organisation.

Research and Innovation Minister Seán Sherlock described the announcement as fantastic news for Cork.

“It is further proof that Ireland continues to be a key location for life science/medical devices companies of this calibre who wish to expand and grow their business.”

Dermot Clohessy, executive director, IDA Ireland, said that investment in research and development is an important part of DePuy Ireland’s future strategy and further endorses Ireland’s established reputation for R&D activities in the international market place.
