US stocks rise for sixth straight session

US stocks climbed for a sixth straight session yesterday as the dollar and global equities rallied on more upbeat economic data from China, while prices of safe-haven debt and oil slipped on the chance of a diplomatic alternative to a potential Western military strike against Syria.

The S&P 500 stock index, after suffering its worst monthly performance in August since May 2012, has rallied to a 2.9% gain to start the month and is currently on its longest winning streak since early July.

World shares advanced. MSCI’s world index, which tracks 45 countries, rose 0.86% and was on course to chalk up its longest run of daily gains since December.
