The collapse of an online tour operator has left a trail of unpaid debts, with some of Ireland’s best-known five-star hotels incurring losses.

Co Clare-based Authentic Ireland Travel Ltd (AITL) has gone out of business and a statement of affairs circulated to the online firm’s creditors shows that it had a deficit of €1.1m, owing unsecured creditors €1.1m.

The firm operated the authenticireland.com website that was sold to Irish Welcome Tours Ltd prior to AITL ceasing to trade earlier this month.
