The growth in the customer base has been put down to offering a competitive product, according to Tesco Mobile Ireland managing director Elaine Russell.

“Tesco Mobile Ireland is thrilled to reach its 200,000th subscriber. We have doubled our customer base in two years and are now looking at how we can continue this upward trajectory,” Ms Russell said.

Tesco Mobile Ireland is a joint venture with O2, which means that for an annual payment the company has access to the O2 network which has 99.6% of the population covered.

Tesco has already opened six stand-alone mobile phone stores and is set to roll out more in the near future to help drive the growth of the network.

“With today’s announcement we feel we are firmly established among consumers as a trusted and reliable brand that can provide a great value, quality alternative to customers.

“Over the next 12 months we will look at how we can bring our mobile phone options to more consumers through mobile phone shop expansion and Tesco in-store offerings, beginning with our next store opening in Maynooth in September,” she said.

One of the trends that Tesco Mobile Ireland has been capitalising on is whole families moving provider.
