Dublin Zoo visitors will learn about history of farming and CAP benefits

Agri Aware’s new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) agri ambassadors Dallan Shovlin and Darragh Smith are adding an educational bonus to visits to the Family Farm in Dublin Zoo.

From now until the end of September, the zoo’s hundreds of thousands of visitors will learn the story of Irish farming and food production, along with the benefits of the CAP.

The initiative is part of an information campaign being delivered by Agri Aware on how CAP benefits urban and rural dwellers of all ages. The campaign is co-financed by the EU, the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development, the IFA and FBD.

The two ambassadors beat a host of applicants for the dream summer job. Dallan Shovlin from Stranorlar, Co Donegal, is a third year student in communications at DCU. Darragh Smith from Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, has completed first year in teacher training at St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra.

The two ambassadors will introduce visitors to the animals, from cows to chickens. The hands-on learning is supported by touch screens, photographs and video footage.

- Dublin Zoo, a not for profit organisation, is open seven days a week from 9.30am to 6pm. For further information on Dublin Zoo visit its Facebook page or the Dublin Zoo website.
