Global tech leaders gather in Cork for summit on big data and the cloud
The summit will focus on the latest emerging technology trends in big data, security, robotics, and social media. As well as international heavy hitters there will also be indigenous success stories such as Newsweaver and breakingnews.ie.
Ronan Murphy, the director of it@cork and chief executive of Smarttech, said the summit offers people a chance to network with global tech leaders.
He said: “Technology is key to competitiveness and operational efficiency and this makes it a critical part of all our businesses.
“The European Tech Summit in Cork affords businesspeople and entrepreneurs the opportunity to network with global companies, while equipping attendees with the information and understanding that will help make decisions around technology in their business in the coming years.”
Amazon’s James Brown will discuss the technical and business aspects of cloud computing, sharing his insights on how to get the most from this transformative technology, while Rik Ferguson of Trend Micro will describe some of the threats and cybercriminal activity that the security industry works to combat in the cloud.
The advent of the cloud has improved the quality and quantity of data. However, this has created its own problems for the big data industry, and the conference will address appropriate management in terms of data protection; data loss prevention; authentication; and security.
The summit will also feature a display of the EMC-sponsored VEX Robotics project, which was designed to promote an interest in the subjects of science, technology, engineering, and maths.
The idea of the programme is to get teams to design their own robot. Some of the robots created to date will be in action at the tech summit.
