Tech giant to recruit for new Irish facility

Tech giant Qualcomm is to establish its first major Irish facility in Cork with an initial team of up to 100 people, with the potential to scale up to several hundred jobs in the medium term.

Yesterday, Qualcomm posted its first batch of Irish job openings on its website. All the jobs are to be based in “Cork, Ireland” and it is understood the “touchdown” team will be based in the Citygate complex in Mahon, which is already home to SolarWinds, McAfee, Big Fish Games and Dell.

Jobs seekers are informed “Qualcomm is looking to grow its Irish workforce with the addition of IT staff who will support Qualcomm’s global operations teams worldwide in the delivery of best-in-class IT solutions”.

Applicants for some posts are being told 20% travel may be required, and “college/graduates new hires are encouraged to apply”.

Qualcomm could not be contacted after the job offerings were posted last night but a spokesman for the IDA said IDA Ireland welcomed the recruitment plans posted yesterday by Qualcomm Incorporated for a new centre in Cork.

IDA chief executive Barry O’Leary said: “Qualcomm is growing its Irish workforce with the addition of highly skilled staff who will support the company’s workforce across the globe. Qualcomm is looking to fill a number of positions in Cork at this time and we are hopeful that they continue to grow their Irish operations in the future.”

Qualcomm employs more than 26,000 people in 188 worldwide locations and last year recorded revenues of $19.1bn.

Qualcomm has commenced hiring for the roles in Cork and will continue to add new positions as they arise. It is understood that initially 100 posts will be filled and that this is expected to grow exponentially over the coming years.

Headquartered in San Diego in the USA, the company has 157 worldwide locations and has an Irish office at East Point Business Park in Dublin.
