Market nears 4,000 points

European markets were higher yesterday amid renewed hopes of further monetary easing by the ECB ahead of its upcoming meeting in May.

The Iseq index was no exception gaining ground for a second consecutive day. The index closed up 100.73 points to 3,930.60.

In the financial sector banking stocks were largely ahead with the exception of Permanent TSB Group Holdings which remained unchanged at 3.6c. Bank of Ireland added 0.5c to 17.1c ahead of its interim management statement today with momentum in the first quarter expected to continue to be strong following the financial year 2012 final results six weeks ago. AIB advanced 0.4c to 7c.
