Others more deserving of cuts than 24/7 staff

In a speech the other day to the 24/7 Frontline Alliance, which includes nurses, gardaí and prison officers, Seamus Murphy of the Psychiatric Nurses Association did not mince his words in speaking up for those he represents and those workers, in general, who are required to provide services on a 24/7 basis.

Others more deserving of cuts than 24/7 staff

There is a belief that these workers are being unfairly tackled while others in cushier roles are not, because they are a minority of union membership.

He was, according to reports, scathing in his remarks about senior public service union leaders, who he said had been in ‘cahoots’ with the Government on how to achieve €1bn in cuts under Croke Park II.
