Firms to create 170 jobs
Around 150 jobs are being created at a new plastics factory in Kildare, while a further 20 jobs were announced in Cork.
MGS Mfg Group is to open a €12m manufacturing centre in Leixlip in the next three years.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said: “Today’s announcement that this leading international engineering and manufacturing company is locating a high-end facility in Ireland with the creation of 150 jobs is great news and a strong indication of the potential for jobs expansion in this area.”
Mr Bruton said the Government is targeting 20,000 new manufacturing jobs in Ireland by 2016.
The factory will be set up in an existing 45,000 sq ft building on the campus of Hewlett-Packard.
The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs through IDA Ireland.
Meanwhile, the Heavey RF Group, an Irish-owned supply chain, logistics technology, and software company, announced it is to establish an inter-national software research and development centre in Cork that will create 20 jobs.
The jobs will include positions for senior and junior software developers.
Chief executive Ronan Clinton said the group looked at sites across Europe before settling on Cork. “We looked at a number of locations, including eastern Europe, but selected Cork for our new development centre, based on the high quality of both education and people in that region.”
