The Iseq declined further as latest figures from the Central Bank indicated the number of mortgages in arrears appears to be increasing.

The Irish Index was 13.7 points worse off at 3328.8.

In the financial sector, Bank of Ireland, in a surprise move on Wednesday, looked to sell €200m of subordinated bonds in an issue that appears to have been oversubscribed by three to four times with the bank raising the issue to €250m. Shares dipped slightly by 0.3c to 11.9c.

Meanwhile, AIB was unchanged at 5.1c with Permanent TSB Group ahead by 0.1c to 2.3c.

A mixed day in the construction sector saw CRH flat at €14.46, Kingspan gaining 8.2c to €8.231 and Grafton Group declining by 4c to €3.64. Elsewhere, Glanbia shed 4c to €7.70. Meanwhile Ryanair fell 2.4c to €4.80 after failing in its legal challenge to block a UK probe into its 30% stake in Aer Lingus.
