Alcatel-Lucent returns to profit as revenues rise

The Irish-based unit of Alcatel-Lucent last year returned to profit to record pre-tax profits of €2.2m after revenues increased by 47% to €15.5m.

Accounts recently filed with the Companies Registration Office show Alcatel- Lucent Ireland Ltd recorded pre-tax profits of €2.2m after sustaining a loss of €7.1m in 2010.

Revues rose from €10.5m to €15.5m in the 12 months to the end of December last.

The number employed at the firm last year declined from 134 to 129.

The principal activity of the company is the provision of research, development, technical installation and support services for their telecom solutions.

The figures show that the company recorded an operating profit of €5m last year compared to an operating loss of €11.2m in 2010.

The profit arose mainly from the firm’s operating expenses reducing from €25.2m to €12.8m. The firm also received ‘other operating income’ of €2.8m compared to €3.4m under that heading in 2010.

The firm recorded the profit in spite of €1.2m in impairment of financial fixed assets and €1.3m in reorganisation costs. Net interest payable of €372,012 further reduced the company’s profits.

The breakdown of the reorganisation costs shows €527,620 in severance costs, €634,269 in building reorganisation costs and €142,454 in onerous lease obligations.

The figures show that staff costs fell from €12.59m to €12.47m last year, with directors’ remuneration totalling €372,747 (that includes €37,115 in pension contributions).

The figures show that the firm received a tax credit of €948,412 resulting in post- tax profits of €3.22m.

The figures show that the firm enjoyed an actuarial gain of €7.3m compared to an actuarial loss of €6.8m in 2010.

Globally, Alcatel-Lucent employs 76,000 and had revenues of €15.3bn last year.
