420 people fined for tax offences

Over €1.2m in fines was doled out to some 420 taxpayers for failing to file returns, cigarette smuggling and selling, and for pub licensing offences.

Some 19 publicans and a number of restaurants received fines of between €650 and €1,250 for failure to hold a current liquor licence.

Included in these were Leo Linehan of Currans restaurant on Adelaide St, Cork, who was fined €650 and Frank McCarthy of McCarthy’s Bar at 5 Ilen St in Skibbereen who was fined €750.
